Final Project

For my final project in Digital Imaging I plan on doing three (3) ads for sunglasses. Each ad will have its own color theme, and they will be bright neon colors. I also want to incorporate a winter scene. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

the Last Supper

my last supper. i made this all about me, myself, and i.  it took me awhile to decide which work of art would be perfect for this project but i finally chose this one because i love to eat and drink and be with all my friends.
--someone once said to me "oh you really do like to be the center of attention".  i will never forget that.

Just Another Day in Paradise

a self-portrait photomontage. let me explain:
downtown Seattle, my favorite place.
south dakota fields, what i saw for twelve years of my life.
texture of my favorite scarf, it is big and fuzzy and warm.  i wore it just about everywhere that winter.
pages from my journal, i write everyday. someone should make a book out of it because it is weird. =)
and a photo of myself. i wanted one that didnt really show my face, but just me. (and my raybans of course)

--for the color.  golds and greys.  gold from the wheat fields. grey from the city.

Mark Mumford

Biography: born 1959 in Delaware. BA at Kenyon University

"Gorilla in a Rape Field"

Description: A gorilla sitting in a field of yellow flowers with a stormy sky above. The gorilla is inside a glass ball and is also holding another glass ball its hands. Inside the glass ball is another ball. The horizon line cuts the photograph.

Analysis of Design: The gorilla is a major focal. There is contrast between the sky and the field in more than one way: the texture and the color. The soft, stormy clouds contrast with the rough flowers in the field, and the bright yellow field against the deep gray sky. The gorilla shows implied lines from his eyes into the glass ball. There is an obvious line direction shown by the horizon line, and that is emphasized by the contrast between the two opposing sides.

Interpretation: I see this as a symbol of freedom, or lack there of. The gorilla is trapped inside a glass bubble yet he is in the middle of a huge field. With the storm, dark clouds brewing overhead, it feels as though he is about to explode out of the ball because he has been trapped for so long. The gorilla looks content and I think if the sky was sunny and calm it would change the meaning entirely.

Judgment: I think this photomontage is very successful because of its seamlessness. It looks as though he actually took a picture of a gorilla inside a glass ball, out in the middle of a field. I really like the interpretation that a viewer can take out of this piece.

Frida Kahlo

Biography: 1907-1954 Kahlo did not originally dream of becoming an artist. She went to the National Preparatory School in Mexico City in the premedical program. When she was 18 she was in a severe bus accident that left her bed ridden for over a year. At this time she started painting, usually still-life’s and self-portraits. She married the Mexican artist, Diego Rivera in 1929. She had her first solo exhibition in 1938 at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York City. But her reputation soared after her death in the 1980’s by feminist art historians.

"Las Dos Fridas"

Description: This is a self-portrait of Frida. There are two Frida’s sitting in chairs holding hands, each angled toward the center of the painting. They are both wearing long dresses, one is blue and brown and the other dress is white with flowers on it. They are connected by veins that are coming out of their hearts that are shown outside their bodies. Both Frida’s have the same blank stare on their face and their hair is the same as well. The background looks like a stormy sky.

Analysis of Design: This painting shows balance and contrast. The two Frida’s are symmetrically balanced, separating the picture in two. But they also contrast each other by wearing different dresses. There is texture in the folds of the fabric, the hearts and blood on the chest, and also in the background.

Interpretation: This is a self-portrait so this explains how Frida feels about herself. There are two sides to her.

Judgment: I love the painting. I think it’s very raw and true. I like the fact that she points out her flaws and that there are two of her, which tells us there is more than one side to her.

Inspiration.

Andy Warhol

i took printmaking in college and absolutely loved it. at first, i was not so fond but after i got the hang of it and made some prints that i love i soon became a huge fan. and therefore Andy Warhol is one of my inspirations.

Aubrey Beardsley

I love the use of lines, the flow of the ink. They seem very sensual and smooth. I am also a huge fan of contrast and the black on white is perfect, clean contrast.

Chuck Close

My freshman year of college, in Art Appreciation class, I had to do a paper about him. Since then he has been one of my favorite artists. I am so intrigued by all the detail in each square that makes up the portraits. It is something I have always wanted to do.

Georgia O'keefe

She paints flowers, usually close up and very colorful. Flowers are a subject that I love. I love to draw them, photograph them, paint them, smell them.....

Quentin Tarantino

Writer and director of some of my all time favorite movies! Kill Bill vol.1 and 2, Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Bastards....just to name a few!
